Judges sentenced former police chief detective Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji to three and a half years in prison and a fine of Rp 200 million (US$23,000) or an additional six months.
The judges at South Jakarta District Court found Susno guilty Thursday of violating articles in the 2001 law on corruption.
Susno was found guilty of corruption in the case of the PT Salma Arowana Lestari fish farm and in the case of state funds earmarked for the 2008 West Java gubernatorial election.
Judges found Susno guilty of abusing his position as chief detective and accepting Rp 500 million from case broker Sjahril Djohan in the fish farm case.
The judges also found him guilty of ordering approximately Rp 8 billion in cuts from a Rp 27 billion state budget earmarked for security during the 2008 West Java gubernatorial election.
According to judges, the funds that were cut were not used for security but for Susno’s personal use. That included the purchase of Rp 25 million in traveler’s checks and a luxury car.
The sentence was less than the seven years’ imprisonment requested by prosecutors. The fine was also less than the prosecutor request of Rp 500 million.
