In an coup d’etat, a group of aggrieved, reform-minded delegates have taken control the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) congress in Pekanbaru, Riau on Saturday.
National Soccer Rescue Committee (KPPN) secretary Tuty Dau said that his group could muster the two-thirds majority of PSSI electors needed to hold a congress without the approval of the PSSI’s executive committee.
“The number of [KPPN] voters needed is 78 people. That number, according to the statute, is enough to hold the congress,” he said, as reported by tribunnews.com.
PSSI executive committee member Bernhard Limbong reportedly gave written permission for the “revolutionaries” to proceed without the PSSI committee, which fled after the delegates, who organizers and the police attempt to bar from the event, broke into the congress hall.
