A former minister and corruption suspect on Wednesday requested the testimony of Miranda Swaray Goeltom, the former senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia who allegedly bribed her way into a senior Bank Indonesia post.
“Miranda [as the witness] of course, because she is the one who knows about this case,” former development planning minister Paskah Suzetta said Wednesday in Jakarta, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Paskah, along with 23 other politicians, who are mostly former and current legislators, were recently arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for allegedly receiving bribes in the form of traveler’s checks amounting to a total of Rp 24 billion.
The bribes were allegedly paid to ease Miranda’s way into the senior deputy governor post.
Miranda had to go through a fit-and-proper test at the House of Representatives before she was elected in 2004.
Paskah referred to Miranda as the “missing link” in the case.
The suspects are allowed to forward their requests for certain witnesses to the KPK.
