House to question Supreme Court on Syarifuddin, judicial supervision

House of Representatives Commission III overseeing law and human rights has announced plans to question the Supreme Court in relation to ongoing graft issues in the legal system, highlighted by the recent arrest of Central Jakarta District Court judge on bribery charges.

Judge Syarifudin was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at his home on Wednesday after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a Rp 250 million bribe in a corporate bankruptcy case.

“We will ask [the court] why such embarrassing things keep happening,” Commission III legislator Azis Syamsudin said Friday.

Azis added that the commission would also question the court on the recruitment and appointment of judges to various courts.

“The Supreme Court, as the supervisor of the judges, must provide us with an explanation on these two things, because they are the root of the problem,” he said, as reported by tribunnews.com.
