Toisutta, Arifin fail in PSSI chairmanship race verification process

George Toisutta and Arifin Panigoro failed to qualify for the chairmanship race of the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI), the verification team announced Saturday.

Two other candidates, current chairman Nurdin Halid and businessman Nirwan D. Bakrie, passed the verification test, the team said.

Toisutta and Arifin were widely deemed as figures of reform for Indonesian soccer following the apparent failure of the country’s soccer potential under the tenure of Nurdin Halid.

“Our reasons for disqualifying any candidate will be sent to them privately. This is classified,” PSSI chairman election committee chief Syarif Bastaman said.

He added that nominees with objections to the decision could file an appeal.
