The private physician for Nunun Nurbaeti, who is implicated in the Bank Indonesia vote buying scandal, denied allegations that his patient was in good health, as claimed by senior Golkar Party politician and former industry minister Fahmi Idris.
Fahmi claimed that Nunun was traveling in Bangkok in good health, showing photos of Nunun’s passport and visa to prove her arrival at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport on May 16, 2010.
Physician Dr. Andreas Harry said that Nunun was experiencing chronic dementia, but her illness, however, did not render her incapable of traveling overseas.
“A senile person can travel. She is not physically disabled – she’s experiencing a cognitive decline," Andreas said, as quoted by kompas.com.
Nunun has been implicated in the Bank Indonesia traveler’s check bribery case. She allegedly distributed Rp 24 billion (US$ 2.66 million) in the form of traveler’s checks to legislators in exchange for their support of Miranda Goeltom during the 2004 election of the former Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has launched an investigation into the case.
“We have the diagnosis and the KPK has the copy,” Andreas said.
Harry claimed that his diagnosis was valid and legitimate and that he has been questioned by the Medical Ethics Honorary Council (HKEK) regarding his assessment of Nunun.
